Ojections to 26 Leathermarket Street proposed scheme

A 2022 scheme to replace the Leathermarket JMB building at 26 Leathermarket Street with a taller mixed use block including social housing is to go to planning committee next month. There is no dispute about the need for social housing, but local residents and BermondseyStreet.London have objected to this particular scheme. BermondseyStreet.London’s objections include oppressive height right on the boundary of Leathermarket Gardens, loss of a strip of the children’s play area, loss of the public art next door on number 22 and the creation of a covered access route into the park which we are sure will attract anti-social behaviour. Residents plan to speak to local Councillors about their concerns at their monthly ‘surgery’ meeting, 6pm Monday 17 November at Bermondsey Village Hall.

To find out more about the proposed scheme, look on the planning register here for application 22/AP/4126.
