21 Jul Theft in London Bridge and West Bermondsey Ward

Councillor Noakes recently updated us after the Ward Community Safety Panel on the crime rate in London Bridge and West Bermondsey Ward, which includes our lovely neighbourhood. Although, according to the latest crime statistics, phone thefts generally have fallen by 50% in the last year and theft by 14%, the numbers reported locally are still disturbing. Every month there are 79-176 thefts and would be worse were it not for the focused and determined efforts of our local police team.  Please consider if there is anything you can do to avoid tempting criminals or make crime more difficult. Residential burglaries: 6-13 offences per month, mostly parcel or bicycle theft

Commercial burglaries: 3-16 offences per month, mostly restaurants and offices

Robberies: 7-21 offences per month, mostly in Borough High Street and Tooley Street in the late evenings

Theft of mobile phones: 50-69 offences per month, mostly by masked boys on electric bikes

Shoplifting: 23-57 offences per month, much of it by a small number of prolific offenders, some of whom were arrested and charged after the recent Operation Honey Badger.
