From Friday 28 March at the Fashion & Textile Museum – Textiles: Art of Mankind

A never-before-seen-in-the-UK collection of amazing textiles is coming to the Fashion & Textile Museum from California. The new exhibition Textiles: The Art of Mankind, curated by textile expert Mary Schoeser, will open on Friday 28 March. Through the beauty of textiles, you can trace human ingenuity from pre-history to our digital age and celebrate the ancient and deep entanglement between textiles, people and our world. Textiles reveal the human desire to engage with texture and colour, record histories, thoughts and feelings, and preserve skills to hand down through the generations. Everywhere, textiles are used to carry sacred significance, express our cultural regard for animals or symbolise life’s mysteries. This exhibition brings together a vibrant collection of exquisite and unexpected objects from around the world: many works are drawn from the Jo Ann C. Stabb Design Collection, University of California Davis.

The Fashion & Textile Museum is at 83 Bermondsey Street SE1 3XF. Book your visit here
