Team London Bridge invite you to become a citizen scientist in your lunch break to helping to identify and count pollinators. This is a call out for anyone passionate about saving essential species that keep our plants alive and our food growing. Join us for a Flying Insect Timed (FIT) count day. You will follow Team London Bridge’s newly updated Green Spaces Trail and do a 10-minute count of a 50cm area at each site – recording your findings with the easy to use FIT App. Benny Hawksbee is a Community Gardener at Eden Nature Garden in Clapham with a background in biology who works to preserve green spaces and nurture pollinators across London.
- Meeting point: London Bridge Hive, 8 Holyrood Street, SE1 2EL
- Plan: Walk and Talk through local green spaces. Benny will answer questions and hopefully catch some pollinators for us to observe. We will then split into groups and conduct a 10 minute pollinator count, comparing data to last year’s counts to monitor species numbers.
- Equipment: A smartphone or note-pad and pen, and suitable clothes for the weather. You can download the FIT App for Apple devices here, and Android here.
