07 Jun Bermondsey Chamber Orchestra performs Mozart and Schubert on 17 June

The next concert by the Bermondsey Chamber Orchestra, Vienna in Mediterranean Light will take place on  Wednesday 17 June at 7pm at St Mary Magdalen Church. The musicians will fill the church with beautiful music by musicians from Vienna: Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 5 and Schubert’s Symphony No 6. Both draw inspiration from Mediterranean  countries. The Mozart piece is known as “The Turkish” because of the famous Janissary-style theme in the final movement, while the Schubert was heavily influenced by Italian opera, particularly the works of Rossini. The violin soloist will be the orchestra’s leader, Kate Oswin.

St Mary Magdalen Church is at 193 Bermondsey Street SE1 3UW. Entry will be £15, concessions available, and will include a glass of wine after the performance, courtesy of local restaurateur, Jose Pizarro. The money raised will be used for the repair and restoration of the church.

Bermondsey Chamber Orchestra is led by Tania Mazetti. The musicians are local professionals with the London orchestras who have volunteered to play for no fee to bring classical live music to Bermondsey. It’s a wonderful gift to our local area.  Many thanks to Tania and the orchestra.
