Dali’s Divine Comedy prints at Eames from Thursday 1 May

Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí was a controversial choice when he was commissioned to illustrate Dante’s Divine Comedy. Funding was later withdrawn but Dali decided to finish the project anyway and produced 100 sumptuous watercolours in a searing evocation of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. He then supervised their interpretation into woodblock prints – a total of 3500 separate blocks, quite a project. Most of the images required over 35 intricate blocks to get the layers of tone and colour.  The woodcuts were made so that the images could reach a much wider audience of collectors all over the world. And from Thursday 1 May, you can see these wonderful works on Bermondsey Street at Eames Fine Art.

Eames Fine Art Gallery is at 58 Bermondsey Street Se1 3UD. More here http://www.eamesfineart.com
