Family fun – a summer of puppets and stories at The Blue

The festival at The Blue market will open on Saturday 16 May with Bangladeshi-born storyteller, Raz Kabir sharing a story blending myth and legend. Once the story has been told, Sarah Sparkes will be sharing how to make tree spirit marionette puppets. The following Saturday, 23 May, poet and storyteller Baden Prince Jnr will bring his “traditional” tales from the Caribbean and all over the world. That will be followed by families making their own Big Cat hand puppet with Frog Morris. On Saturday 30 May, Sarah Sparkes will return to The Blue to teach families to make their own ‘jumping jack’ puppet. A week later, on Saturday 6 June, animation expert Phyllida Hickish will guide participants through a winged bird puppet workshop, with a live performance by Brazilian storyteller Marianna Portella. And the events roll on through June and July, with Japanese puppets, shadow puppets, live music and more. More  here.
