Ginger Beer in Grange Road

Grange Road is well-known locally for the Alaska Building and now the revitalised pickle factory site at New Tannery Way. In the early 20th century, the Alaska Building was a tannery for seal skins imported from the Hudson Bay Company in Canada – a smelly business. The pickle factory made Branston Pickle, also a pretty smelly process. From a great piece in Southwark News, we now learn that there was also a ginger beer factory in Grange Road, adding its own special something to the aroma cocktail in the street.
