24 Jan KINO cinema, Bermondsey Square – change of use plans withdrawn

KINO cinema in Bermondsey Square closed in 2023 when rent negotiations failed with the landlord, Oval Real Estate. They applied for permission to change the use of the space to a restaurant, shop or sports facility. Local residents, councillors and BermondseyStreet.London objected strongly, not least because planning permission had been granted in 2005 on condition that the unit would remain a cinema and arts club/exhibition space. It’s really great news that the application has been withdrawn. Let’s hope a more appropriate cultural or community use can be found soon.
