Met Police on Bermondsey Street

From local feedback, the Met Police have recognised that personal theft (eg pickpocketing, no violence used) is a concern in our area. Last week, officers teamed up to carry out a ‘bag theft operation’ in Bermondsey Street and Tooley Street areas. They targeted known hotspots, made one arrest, searched six people and found one with drugs – a successful operation, and their presence reassured residents. The police ask, as ever, for prompt reporting if you spot anything suspicious. On their website there is the latest advice and guidance on keeping yourself safe, key points to remember are:

  • Only take out valuables if you feel you are in a safe place
  • Do not leave valuable items unattended
  • Make sure any bags you have are closed and not left unattended.
