Morocco Street/Bermondsey Street corner gets an uplift

Earlier this year, BermondseyStreet.London was granted £5000 by Southwark Council to fund extra street cleaning, particularly at the Morocco Street/Bermondsey Street corner where many people are tempted to leave their rubbish. This corner is absolutely at the heart of the Bermondsey Street conservation area and the focus of many who come to visit. That it has been continually covered with rubbish bags, and spilled rubbish has been more than embarrassing. That’s why BermondseyStreet.London applied for the extra funding.

The first visible impact from the extra funds can now be seen in the refurbished planters, and the careful jetwashing of the pavement before the Bermondsey Street Festival. Let’s hope local business manage to keep the planters well watered. Meanwhile Southwark Council are working towards a solution with regards to the fly-tipping of bagged rubbish. We hope soon it will be a thing of the past.
