05 Mar Multi-Ward meeting Tuesday 18 March, Council offices, Tooley Street
There will be a multi-ward meeting, including our ward London Bridge & West Bermondsey at the Council’s offices in Tooley Street on Tuesday 18 March at 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to announce allocation of community funding – Neighbourhoods Fund, Cleaner Greener Safer and Devolved Highways.
BermondseyStreet.London hope to hear that its application for funding for a permanent interpretation board for Christy’s Walk has been successful. Christy’s Walk is the footway that runs between St Mary Magdalen Churchyard and Tanner Street Park. The name was chosen by the community to commemorate the huge Christy’s Hat Factory that spread from Newham’s Row across tot he other side of Bermondsey Street in the 19th century. In its time, it was the largest hat manufactury in Europe.
