New exhibition at White Cube from Friday 26 September

The new exhibition at White Cube, Gunpowder and Abstraction, opens on Friday 26 September. It is a solo exhibition of work by Cai Guo-Qiang (b. 1957, Quanzhou, Fujian, China), coinciding with Frieze London. Cai has been based in New York since 1995 and is best known for his monumental outdoor explosion events, gunpowder paintings and large-scale installations. This exhibition marks the artist’s first project in London since his iconic explosion event at Tate Modern in 2003. Featuring a selection of Cai’s signature gunpowder paintings created over the past decade, the show highlights the artist’s radical exploration of the material, in which he ignites black and coloured gunpowder directly onto various substrates such as paper, canvas, glass and mirror.

White Cube is at 144–152 Bermondsey Street SE1 3TQ. Entry is free. More here http://www.whitecube.com
