12 Feb Over 30 comments on the 2 Newham’s Row planning application

BermondseyStreet.London this week submitted its objection to the proposed upwards extension of 2 Newham’s Row, just off Bermondsey Street. This building is just on the edge of the Bermondsey Street conservation area and visible from Bermondsey Street at the entrance to Newham’s Row and from Tower Bridge Road at the entrance to Newhams Yard. The proposed upward extension would double the height of the building to eight storeys, well in excess of the majority of the buildings in the conservation area, at 5-6 storeys. It would be over-dominant in the traditional yard environment of Newham’s Row and the interconnected Bell Yard Mews, be like a cliff-face looming over the Christy’s Walk footway between Tanner Street Park and St Mary Magdalen churchyard, and set a damaging precedent for the context of the conservation area and its listed buildings. We asked the Council to reject it.

Our objection joins the other 30 comments on the Council’s planning website – we are not alone in objecting to this planning application.
