13 May Planned Bermondsey Street improvements – consultation open
Further improvements to Bermondsey Street are planned for this autumn by Southwark Council and are currently open for consultation. These improvements include widening the pavements from Tyers Gate northwards. The Council’s website says:
“A closure to motor vehicles was introduced on Bermondsey Street, between Leathermarket Street and Whites Grounds, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Between September ’24 and February ’25 construction works were undertaken to make the closure permanent and remove the temporary blocks on the street. The works included pavement widening and improvements to the cycle facility over the closure. We are proposing to continue the pavement widening north bound starting at Tyers Gate and continuing up the west side of the street to the junction of Bermondsey Street/Crucifix Lane/ St Thomas Street and Snowsfields.” The proposed changes are very similar to plans developed in 2024 and shown above.
