26 Feb Repair work to begin at St Mary Magdalen church in March

The St Mary Magdalen church building on Bermondsey Street is on the Heritage at Risk Register. Thankfully, the most urgent repairs will begin in March, at a cost of around £25000. A generous grant has been awarded for half the cost by The Marshall’s Charity and the church is fund-raising for the remainder. If you would like to contribute, you can do that here (link). The urgent work includes:

  • repairs to the supporting elements in the tower and clock enclosure which have corroded over the years,
  • unblocking the rainwater drainage systems, and removing unwanted vegetation and,
  • improve fire protection in the entrance to the church.

 

These repairs will help to keep the building functional while the church develops plans for comprehensive restoration and improved future use.
