Schedule for works in Leathermarket Gardens

Even with some winter sunshine, the rose garden in Leathermarket Gardens (pictured) is looking rather sad. But hurrah, the fencing round it has at last been removed, so we can look forward to seeing and smelling those wonderful roses later in the year when they come into bloom. The fencing was in place, for a long time, it must be said, to give the new border planting around the roses a good chance to get rooted.

The latest information we have from the Council is that the planned improvement work in Leathermarket Gardens has been delayed because some of the materials were not available, but that the sequence will be pergola first (was initially planned to start 27 January), for three week’s work followed by new planting. Work to improve the Tyers Gate entrance will begin next (was planned to start 10 February) and is expected to take about seven weeks. Work on the raised beds near the Village Hall will be the last chunk of work to be started (was planned to start 17 February) and will take about seven weeks.
