Shoplifting and burglary down last month, but more bag theft

The latest update from our community policing team tells us that shoplifting and burglaries in the Bermondsey Street area were down in the month leading up to the christmas holiday, as compared with the previous month. But bag theft from customers in our hospitality venues went up slightly. The advice from the police team is:

hospitality venues – keep alert to anyone loitering at the venue not ordering food or drink, or paying attention to bags

retail – bank all money, leave tills standing open and hide away valuable items.

The Bermondsey Street figures remain low as compared with the London Bridge and Borough High Street areas, where local police are focused on reducing begging, phone theft, shoplifting and drugs activity. There continue to be drugs and knife sweeps in local parks and  housing estates.
