St Ives prints at Eames from Thursday 21 May

A new show opens at Eames Fine Art Gallery this week on Thursday 21 May. It is called The Shape of Things: Abstraction and Printmaking in St Ives. It includes prints by many of the great artists who have worked in St Ives including Terry Frost, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron, John Hoyland and Victor Pasmore. In the mid-twentieth century, artists were enticed by St Ives’ idyllic setting and bohemian reputation and the town became associated with a nature-inspired approach to abstraction and print-making producing exceptional etchings, lithographs, linocuts, and screenprints. Collaborations between artists and printmakers flourished-such as Barbara Hepworth with Stanley Jones, and Terry Frost with Hugh Stoneman.

Eames Fine Art Gallery is at 58 Bermondsey Street SE1 3UD. More  here.
