25 Apr Street closures for crane removal from St Thomas Street

Mace, construction contractor at Edge London Bridge on St Thomas Street has written with plans for removing a crane from the site. The plan is designed to minimise the impact of necessary road closures on local residents and businesses.

• Saturday 26 April to Saturday 3 May daytime
The crane will lower itself, landing mast sections onto trailers in the pit lane. The North section of Weston Street will be closed for periods during the day and pedestrian access to and from St Thomas Street will be via Melior and Fenning Streets. The road closure will be removed each evening.
• Sunday 4 May and Monday 5 May
A mobile crane in St Thomas Street will remove sections of the crane. This will involve a road closure on both Weston Street and St Thomas Street. The north footpath on St Thomas Street will be open throughout and pedestrian access via Melior and Fenning Streets
• Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May
A mobile crane in Weston Street will remove the rest of the crane. Only Weston Street will be affected. Pedestrians diverted along Melior and Fenning Streets.
• Friday 16 (evening), Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May
A mobile crane in Weston Street will remove the temporary steelwork that supported the tower crane. Due to the complexity of the removal and size of steel sections we are planning to start the operation after 18:00 on Friday and work through until completion on Sunday 18 May.

Once the crane has been removed, Fenning Street can be repaired. Conway are planning to start work there on Monday 19 May and re-open the street week beginning 2 June.
