Transport for London (TFL) seeks to up the congestion charge and tighten eligibility for relief to residents living inside the congestion zone. Under the proposals the daily charge would rise from £15 to £18 in January 2026. There would be new discounts for electric vehicles, including a 37.5 per cent reduction for electric cars. From March 2027, the residents’ discount of 90% would only be applicable to electric vehicles. Existing resident discount holders would continue with the current 90% discount. TFL is also seeking to have the congestion charge increase every year as tube fares do.
