Update from Chapter Living and Edge London Bridge sites on St Thomas Street

The latest update from Mace…. Work continues at Chapter Living despite loss of mains power. All major plant has been installed. The terrace on L37 is being landscaped. Glazing and terracotta are being installed at ground level.  Next is the removal of the hoist in March and the tower crane/steel grills in April, enabling the south facade to be completed.

At the Edge London Bridge site, the core construction is now up to Levels 19/20 and the floors to L16. Next up will be the steel trusses for levels 16-20. Further work on the flower floors will require a combination of structural steel, compressed laminated timber, Glulam beams and pre-cast panels. Within the next three months cladding will start to be installed bottom up.

BermondseyStreet.London notes from the update that the sinkhole in Fenning Street is now referred to, rather coyly, as a soil slippage. Residents and others continue to be concerned about potential design flaws in these and other basements in the area, which may cause the ground to become unstable. This area was once tidal marsh, so ground water is very much to be expected and building designs should allow for that.
