Update on waste and flytipping on Bermondsey Street.

Bermondsey Street is by no means the worst spot in the Borough for fly-tipping, but we do have a long standing problem of waste being dumped on the corner of Morocco and Bermondsey Streets. Lots of different approaches have been tried to improve matters, but still it continues, a shameful scar on our much-loved street.  This year BermondseyStreet.London secured grant funding for planters and extra street cleaning. Same again for next year and we are currently planning how best to spend it.

Meanwhile the Council has introduced three enforcement patrols each week to monitor waste‑dumping and issue warnings or Fixed Penalty Notices where necessary. An additional commercial waste bin is to be installed. There is also the problem of food waste left in the planters which attracts rodents and foxes, a health risk. Nearby businesses have agreed to doublebag food waste and the Council will continue to monitor the issues.
