Work to widen pavements on Bermondsey Street

The long-expected work on Bermondsey Street to widen the pavements permanently has at last begun. Temporary widening was put in place during the COVID pandemic in 2019. Early in 2023, the Council consulted about its plans for making some pavements on the street wider permanently and reducing the number of car parking spaces. The decision was made following the consultation to go ahead with the plan. Now, the work has begun on the west pavement, south of the junction with Tanner Street. We hope it will mean there is plenty of room on the pavement for pedestrians and less need to walk in the road. Safer all round.
